Adult Leaders

In Troop 906, we value our Scouts' success both in Scouting and life and accredit much of it to the adult leaders and parents.  While Scouts try their bests to complete activities and advance onto further ranks, adults are crucial for supervising Scout-led activities and intervening in the event of an emergency.  Our troop is managed by a charter-appointed committee and a Scoutmaster who delegates jobs and tasks to Assistant Scoutmasters.

Primary Contacts

Parents vs Adult Leaders

"A parent comes on a campout and helps their child set up their tent so that they are warm and dry.  An adult leader offers advice to young Scouts then finds an older Scout and lets them know who is having trouble and might need help.  A parent will get up early and help cook breakfast, sometimes taking over so that their child has a nice stack of perfect pancakes to eat.  An adult leader will watch them burn some pancakes, then show them how to make one or two, then step back and watch as they make their own semi-perfect stack of edible pancakes.  The parent comes to the Scoutmaster, child in tow and says, 'MY child needs a Scoutmaster Conference' or 'MY child needs a leadership position.'  An adult leader will bring any Scout up to the Scoutmaster and say, 'I think this Scout was looking to talk to you about something,' then leave to assist other Scouts.  What are you?  A parent or an adult leader?"

Scouting's Barriers to Abuse

Youth Protection Training (YPT)

True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting.  It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels.

In Troop 906, protecting our youth is our first priority.  All Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and committee members have a valid VPT certification and we follow every rule and abide by the Barriers to Abuse to avoid a potential infraction.
